Humans Can Not Apply by National Security Band

The song "Humans Can Not Apply" is a deeply personal song and tells the story of a someone in an abusive and troubled relationship. As a last resort, they escaped and ran into hiding for several years before they were finally heard from again. Through all of the troubles and solitude, they were replaced at their job by a robot and had no means of making ends meet to pay the bills or put food on the table.

The song haunts me because the connection is so personal and intense. Many people have these same struggles-some have it much worse.

"Humans Can Not Apply" Lyrics

These words cut me to my dying bones

What I heard in my fractured home

Never relaxed, not this time, no way

The thoughts swirl in my active mind

Carry me, carry me, carry me away

As the grains drip through, I slide away

Grasp or squeeze or release these chains

No substance left at the end of the day

Nothing retained from the words they say

Carry me, carry me, carry me away

Memories used to fill the room

Escaping that space was all I could do

Coded words cut deep to the core

I went through the motions week after week

Carry me, carry me, carry me away

A crack of light in my cold pine box

One last message for my aching mind

Etched on the lid of my last goodbye

Were the words, “humans can not apply”

Carry me, carry me, carry me away
